STEAM Toward the Future In-Person

Join us as we celebrate and empower the youth in our community! Get inspired by presentations from professionals in STEAM fields, try out some hands-on STEAM activities, and enter to win amazing door prizes! This event lasts from 4:30 - 6:30 PM on October 16th. While geared toward Kindergarten - 6th grade, all are welcome. No registration necessary.

SPEAKERS:

Dr. Gary Bowlin

Dr. Bowlin is a Professor and Herbert Herff Chair of Excellence at The University of Memphis in the Department of Biomedical Engineering. Dr. Bowlin’s collaborative research focuses on the development of structures to guide and allow for the growth of new tissues and organs (i.e., blood vessels and cartilage).  He will present some of this work, demonstrate the techniques used, and have a hands-on demonstration for all ages of an approach being used to develop new tissues.  For the parents, it is no longer science fiction.  Dr. Bowlin has 13 U.S. Patents issued and over 30 foreign patents, and he is a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors.  

Dr. Randel Price

Dr. Randel Price grew up in central Missouri. He was a Hickman High School Kewpie, a University of Missouri Tiger, and has graduate degrees from Arkansas and Lehigh. Dr. Price worked as a Process Engineer for Conoco and was on faculty at Ole Miss. He has been at Christian Brothers University for the last 15 years, teaching chemical engineering. Of late Dr. Price has a particular interest in process and industrial safety. His presentation will explore the impact of chemical engineering in daily life.
